Every drop of Manuka honey is protected all the way from our hives to you; making sure the Manuka flower is as potent and alive in the jar as it is in the hive. It’s what we at Comvita have been doing for four decades, and very little has changed, because we’ve mastered the method of preserving the purity of the source.

Comvita® UMF® Manuka Honey can be enjoyed straight from the spoon, in warm water or to naturally sweeten your favourite smoothies and raw recipes.

Comvita Manuka Honey Lozenges contain UMF® 10+ Manuka Honey and bee propolis to provide a soothing taste anytime of day.

Every single batch of Comvita® UMF® Manuka honey is independently analysed and certified for quality, purity and authenticity by the UMF® Honey Association (UMFHA).
The UMF® number indicates the level of the unique Manuka properties within the honey. As well as regular monitoring, the UMFHA also conducts random sampling to ensure Manuka honey carrying the UMF® mark is true to label.

Only the UMF® testing process measures all three signature compounds, Leptosperin, DHA and Methylglyoxal, that together indicate high quality, authentic Manuka honey – while other systems measure only one or two. This process gives you a much more comprehensive and assured view of what’s in your honey.

Please see www.umf.org.nz for further information on the grading system and UMF® quality mark.

MANUKA HONEY GRADING SYSTEM

What is UMF™?

Mānuka Honey comes from the nectar of the flower of the Mānuka bush (Leptospermum scoparium) which is indigenous to New Zealand. It is the nectar and the bee that give this honey its unique properties. The number represents the unique signature compounds characteristic of this honey which ensures purity and quality. These include: the key markers of Leptosperin, DHA and Methylglyoxal (MGO).

Methylglyoxal (MGO)

MGO is the compound responsible for the unique properties of manuka honey and forms the basis of the UMF™ grading system.

Leptosperin

Leptosperin is also found in manuka nectar, and due to its unique abundance in manuka honey has been identified as the most discerning characteristic to distinguish manuka honey from other honey types.

Dihydroxyacetone (DHA)

DHA is in the nectar of manuka flowers and converts into MGO once the bees gather the nectar and turn it into honey.

FAQs

Q: What is Manuka Honey?

Comprising more than just simple sugars, Manuka Honey also contains prebiotic oligosaccharides that may support gut health; proteins; essential amino acids; vitamins and minerals; bioactive phenolic and polyphenolic compounds. Making Manuka Honey the most delicious therefore the best way to take vitamins daily.

Q: Why is Manuka Honey so expensive?

When we think of precious items such as gold and diamonds, we understand that these items are expensive due to how hard they are to source and how rare they are. Manuka Honey is no different – the Manuka tree only grows in one country in the world - New Zealand. In addition to this the flowering season of the Manuka tree’s delicate flowers only last 6 weeks. This doesn’t allow much time for the bees (or us) to collect it’s precious nectar. In addition to this the medicinal properties of Manuka Honey has been extensively researched and medical trials have shown it to have natural antibacterial, anti-flammatory and antimicrobial properties. It is the only honey used extensively in hospitals around the globe for wound care in patients.
